Welcome

A very warm welcome to all worshipping with us today.  At the Communion services those who are confirmed and those who normally receive Communion in their own church (whatever denomination) are invited to receive Communion.  All are welcome to receive a blessing.

Prayer for Advent Sunday

Father, let your hope arise in our hearts! Lift our eyes up to see that you alone are where our hope comes from. Help us to shake off the anxiety, discouragements, and distractions that have filled this year.  Amen.

Prayer for all places of conflict

Lord, we pray for the people of Ukraine, the Middle East and all places of conflict; give them a sense of hope in their situation.  May they strengthen each other and receive the love and nourishment they deserve.  We pray that peaceful resolutions may be found, and that they will all know the love of Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Prayer for the victims of natural disasters

God of compassion, hear our prayers for those who are affected by natural disasters: strengthen them in their hour of need, and grant them courage to face the future, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer for the sick

We pray for those who are sick and who ask for our prayers: Marian, Mark and Debbie, Mike, Joan C, Emma, Madge, Tim, Arthur. (We also remember silently in our hearts: Heather; Jackie; Ann; Dave; Daisy; Brenda; Monica; Hester, Kerry, Izabel, John, Paul).

Rest in peace

We pray for those who have died recently, and for their families at this sad time. Pat Grist

Christmas Shows and Concerts

Catherine Coeshott will be in two Christmas shows next month: Journey to Oz (First Act) at Shanklin Theatre on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 December at 18.30 – box office 868000.  The Christmas Express (Way Forward) at Medina Theatre on Monday 9 December at 18.45 -box office 823884  Everyone welcome to come along.

Tritone Singers will be performing their Christmas Concert, What Child is This, on Friday 6 December at Garfield Road Methodist Church in Ryde.  The concert starts at 1900 and will include a variety of Christmas carols and music as well as taking you on an amusing Musicologial Journey through the Twelve Days of Christmas. Tickets are £10 and refreshments will be available during the interval for a recommended donation.  More information from Deborah Coeshott.

Holy Cross Social Events 

Joan Livingstone is giving a talk on Thursday 5 December at 19.00 on “An unusual, interesting and wonderful Christmas spent in the world’s third poorest country.”  We would love to see as many friends as possible.  Mince pies and hot drinks to follow. Entrance free, donations to Holy Cross.

The Social Committee would like to invite you and your family to our Nativity Crib Display on Saturday 14 December from 10.00 to 15.00 to see a variety of Christmas Cribs and scenes large, small and from around the world.  Seasonal refreshments will be available all day and the Christmas Hamper raffle will be drawn at 14.00.  If you would like to display a crib, please put your name on the list at the back of the church.

Local Care Homes Carol Services

Four of the Care Homes that are visited regularly have asked for a Carol Service, and these have been arranged as follows.

Kite Hill, Thursday 5 December at 11.00, 

Merrydale on Spencer Road, Tuesday 10 December at 14.30 for 15.00 Hazel Lodge, Havenstreet, Monday 16 December at 11.00, 

and Northbrooke, Havenstreet, Thursday 19 December at 14.15.  It would be wonderful if some of you could join us and add your voices to swell the sound.  For more information please contact Rodney Fox for Kite Hill or Jane Calderin (07484328640) for the other three homes.
